Manatee Co., Fla. — A six month moratorium on medical marijuana has been approved by the City of Bradenton.

This morning, the city council voted unanimously on the proposal. Many other cities throughout the state have also approved similar proposals.

The Moratorium gives the city time to understand what the regulations for medical marijuana will be now that its use has been approved by 71% of Florida voters.

"We really have to see what the law even looks like," says Mayor Wayne Posten of the City of Bradenton. "We know that it's been 'okay-ed' and people are in favor of it. Now the legislator has to put together a bill that talks about that. We want to know what the rules are, what we implement, how we police it, how we zone it, you know. It's the time to do that."

There has been a growing interest in opening marijuana dispensaries in the city after the Tallahassee company, "Trulieve", bought a piece of property on 14th Street West near downtown Bradenton.

Manatee County also approved a 6-month moratorium Tuesday.
