More than a dozen groups have formed a statewide coalition to make sure patients can get access to medical marijuana under Illinois' new pilot program.

Organizers have announced the formation of the Cannabis Patient Advocacy Coalition.

They say it will seek to remove barriers to care and make sure policymakers hear patients' personal stories.

The coalition will also push for Gov. Bruce Rauner to approve recommendations to add 11 health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder, to the state's medical marijuana program.

Rauner has not said whether he will approve the additions or another proposal to extend the pilot program by two years.

Kurt Florian is president of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. In a statement announcing the coalition he complained about the pace of implementing the program.
