Wyandotte county state senator David Haley says if other states have it, Kansas should too. Senate Bill 9, which was carried over from the last session, would decriminalize use of marijuana for medical reasons in Kansas. Currently, possession could land you in jail for a year. Growing your own could get you over ten years. Haley says he just wants a hearing.

"And we just wanna make common sense for people who will try to alleviate glaucoma and a host of other physical ailments," says Haley. In the past, senate bill nine hasn't gained much traction. The measure has been endorsed by the Silver Haired Legislature. Kansas lawmakers convene in Topeka January 13th.
