AUBURN, Calif. -- Taking nearly everyone by surprise and to the utter
delight of the jury the defense rested today in this nationally watched
medical marijuana trial. Although many were expecting an intensive
cross-examination of the prosecution's star witness, special agent Earl Mick
Mollica, defense attorney J. Tony Serra simply grinned at the jury said,
"I think we've already heard enough. I have no questions for this witness."
After a short but dramatic pause Mr. Nick stood and said "No questions your
Honor, the defense rests." The jury responded immediately and cheered like
they had just won the superbowl.
Tomorrow the jury will hear closing arguments and instructions from the
judge and begin deliberations late tomorrow or first thing Friday.
