HELENA, Mont. — As the end of the session nears, Montana lawmakers have just a few days to reach a compromise over a bill to overhaul the state's medical marijuana industry.

Governor Brian Schweitzer vetoed the Republican plans to repeal the voter-approved drug law Wednesday.

Legislators plan to start working out differences Monday between the Senate and House on the overhaul measure, Senate Bill 423.

If they can't, lawmakers face the possibility of Legislative inaction and letting the booming industry continue to grow.

Many lawmakers from both parties say something needs to be done to rein in medical marijuana in Montana that now has nearly 30,000 legal users.

The overhaul proposal will likely propose a significant reduction in the state's medical marijuana industry, possibly removing profit from the trade.
