Monson - Town Meeting said no to a Planning Board-recommended zoning amendment to create a medical marijuana overlay zoning district to accommodate potential growing and dispensary facilities at Monday's session.
Although 75 voted in favor, 216 were opposed at the well-attended special Town Meeting.
The medical marijuana overlay district that was rejected called for creation of the zone along Upper Palmer Road near Stebbins Road.
Had the measure passed, medical marijuana growing facilities and dispensaries would be allowed in the district, as well as in industrial zones.
