One of the cannabis industry's experts came to UMass, Amherst Tuesday night to offer perspective on how Marijuana Dispensaries function on the west coast.

Every seat was filled in the Herter Hall auditorium at UMass, Amherst Tuesday night.

Massachusetts is in the very beginning of determining how it will implement the state's new medical marijuana law.

Steve DeAngelo is the executive director of Harborside Health Center, a medical cannabis dispensary in Oakland California.

DeAngelo told 22News that Massachusetts' medical marijuana "rule-making" phase will take some time, but the end result will help a lot of people.

"Massachusetts really passed a very progressive law that I believe can help establish medical cannabis dispensaries that will provide benefits, not just to the patients who depend on these dispensaries, but to the entire community," DeAngelo said.

Tuesday night's discussion was part of an ongoing " Cannabis Colloquium" put on by the university activist group, " The UMass Cannabis Reform Coalition."
