The Maryland House Judiciary Committee could vote on House Bill 1222,
the Darrell Putman Compassionate Use Act, at any time this week
following last Wednesday's public hearing.

Thus far, 57 Maryland residents have e-mailed members of the committee
to ask them to vote for this important piece of legislation that would
allow qualified patients to use medical marijuana with their doctors'
approval. Thank you to those who have spoken out in support of
patients.

Unfortunately, only eight percent of Marylanders who receive MPP's
legislative alerts have taken the time to e-mail committee members.

If you have not already done so, please visit MD - MPP
and use the Take Action page to contact committee members. It only
takes a few minutes to select and send an e-mail that will reach all
22 members of the committee.

The bill needs 12 "yes" votes to pass the committee. Eight committee
members are co-sponsors of the bill. The remaining committee members
have not yet committed their support.

The committee members who are sponsoring the bill are:

Del. Don Murphy (R-Catonsville)
Del. William H. Cole IV (D-Baltimore)
Del. Dana Lee Dembrow (D-Silver Spring)
Del. Lisa A. Gladden (D-Baltimore)
Del. Sharon M. Grosfeld (D-Kensington)
Del. Pauline H. Menes (D-College Park)
Del. Kenneth C. Montague, Jr. (D-Baltimore)
Del. David M. Valderrama (D-Oxon Hill)

It is our job to convince their fellow committee members that
protecting patients from arrest and incarceration for using medical
marijuana is the right thing to do.

In addition to taking action at MPP's Maryland site, you can also read
numerous articles about the committee hearing and this year's
legislative effort.
