The owners of a medicinal marijuana manufacturing firm in this Adirondack Mountain community are giving reporters and photographers a tour of their operation.

Strict state laws will prevent future visits so Monday's tour might be one of the few opportunities for the public to see inside the facility.

The company, Etain, was one of five among 43 applicants awarded a license from the state in August, putting an end to fierce competition that in its waning days saw announcements of support for local organizations, including millions in grants for research, in an apparent bid to win over public opinion.

Etain is one of two that will operate in the greater Capital Region. The other is Empire State Health Solutions, a company whose affiliate is already producing medical cannabis in Minnesota. Its greenhouses in Perth, Fulton County, are ready to accept plants this week, according to Chief Executive Officer Kyle Kingsley.

Companies with sights on the Capital Region that did not win a license include Compassionate Relief Centers of New York (with a proposal for Washington County), Fiorello Pharmaceuticals (Glenville), the Good Green Group (Hudson).
