Newburg Law, PLLC is representing the rights of Michigan's medical marijuana patients in the Court of Appeals to determine whether medical marijuana patients can be disqualified form unemployment benefits for their use of medical marijuana. The Michigan Court of Appeals has decided to hear an appeal, Kemp v Hayes Green Beach Hospital (Court of Appeals Docket No.: 315441), addressing whether a medical marijuana patient, fired for her use of marijuana during non-work hours, is disqualified for unemployment benefits under Michigan state law.
Newburg Law, PLLC, a law firm specializing in medical marijuana appellate practice, is defending the Ms. Kemp's rights on appeal. "Ms. Kemp, as a registered qualifying medical marijuana patient, is not subject to penalty for her medical use of marijuana," said Eric Misterovich, Newburg Law, PLLC partner handing the appeal. "We are pleased the Court of Appeals accepted this case and are confident we will set precedent that protects patients' rights," Misterovich said.
