ResponsibleOhio, the organization aiming to put a marijuana legalization question on the Ohio ballot this November, began collecting signatures around Ohio today, including at two downtown Toledo locations.

Registered Ohio voters can sign Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m at the Main Library downtown, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 425 Jefferson Ave.

The Columbus-based organization won final authorization Friday from the Ohio Ballot Board for their proposed constitutional amendment.

Now, they must collect nearly 306,000 signatures of Ohio voters by July 1.

Under the proposed amendment, Ohioans at least 21 years old could possess up to an ounce of marijuana. All the pot legally grown in the state would be produced at one of 10 licensed facilities that would be in competition with each other.

Ohio would be the fifth state to legalize marijuana for medical as well as recreational reasons.

Signatures are also being collected in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland, ResponsibleOhio said today.
