Huntington - Huntington voters overwhelmingly approved a city sales tax on sales of recreational marijuana in the Tuesday's General Election, but it was not the only community in eastern Oregon where the issue was on the ballot.

According to numbers posted on Baker County's website, the vote was 183, or 90 percent, for the tax and 19, or 9 percent, opposed to the tax.

Sumpter voters also approved a tax on recreational marijuana sales.

In Halfway, Milton Freewater and North Powder, voters defeated measures to lift bans on marijuana sales or businesses, while approving the imposition of taxes if the marijuana sales had been approved, according to the Secretary of State website. Those tax issues are not moot.

Union voters approved a ban on recreational marijuana, while Pendleton voters approved allowing medical and recreational sales of marijuana and a tax on recreational sales.

Hermiston voters went the other way, instead approving a ban on any marijuana-related businesses.
