House Speaker Mike Turzai, R-Marshall, appointed Jennifer Shuckrow to the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Advisory Board on Tuesday, according to his spokesman, Stephen Miskin.

Shuckrow and her family live in Pittsburgh, and she is a 1994 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She is a former practicing attorney and college administrator. Shuckrow serves on the Board of Trustees for the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, and she is the mother of a child with an intractable form of epilepsy, which is among the conditions treatable with medical marijuana.

Shuckrow is one of 15 members who will comprise the advisory board, according to Miskin. It is responsible for reviewing the state's newly created medical marijuana program, gathering evidence from similar programs in other states and working with stakeholders.

The board must submit its findings to the General Assembly and the governor by May 17, 2018.
