Pot For Princess Kate

Severe intractable nausea and vomiting of early pregnancy is called Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) and it endangers 0.3 to 2 % of pregnant woman, but it only makes headlines when Princess Kate gets it.

It's a hazardous, debilitating condition that can easily lead to more than five percent weight loss at a time when mom is supposed to be gaining weight. It prevents eating and drinking and can lead to hospitalization because of dehydration, renal failure, jaundice, encephalopathy, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, and then secondary depression.

It's much more dangerous for both mom and baby than the mild nausea and vomiting called morning sickness and can still rarely result in maternal and/or fetal death. The babies tend to be small, of lower birth weight and born prematurely.

Marijuana is famous for alleviating severe nausea and vomiting and is often used to help chemo patients complete their treatment and it increases their chance of survival.

As the U.S. can't research illegal medicines, a 2009 Canadian study found that 59 (77%) of the pregnant women had nausea and/or vomiting of pregnancy and 40 (68%) used marijuana for relief. A whopping 37 (over 92%) stated it was 'extremely effective' or 'effective!

It's also completed safe in pregnancy as proved years ago by Nurse Melanie Dreher, Ph.D. in Jamaica.** The babies of the mothers that smoked pot were not only normal, they fed better, socialized better and focused better than the babies that were not exposed to pot in utero. Follow up years later confirmed no problems in the kids whose mothers smoked pot during preggers, as the Brits sometimes call it! No other medication used to treat HG is safer than pot.

Marijuana was also the treatment of choice for alcoholism before it became illegal. Imagine eliminating Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, a lifelong debilitating condition that effects about 0.5 to 1 % of U.S. babies and costs us billions of dollars annually, just by legalizing pot!

Marijuana is the safest recreational, OTC or prescription medication in the world and we must stop depriving our patients of this incredible, natural, cheap, safe medicine.
