A debate was going since long about the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes. Finally, in a recent research it has been proved that in comparison to cigarette smoking, pot smoking is less harmful. It has lower chances of causing bladder cancer.

According to authors of this study, this finding could prove to be a potential one for marijuana validation. But according to a urologist who was not a part of this study, this research included only smokers and didn't analyzed nonsmokers for testing grounds.

This study was carried on over 83,000 men. It continued for 11 long years to reach a confirmed and authentic conclusion. Men included against the risk of bladder cancer were either who smoked cigarettes only, marijuana (cannabis) only, else both substances.

As a result, it was found that men who only smoked pot were at the lowest risk of developing bladder cancer during the overall study period. Those who even combined it with tobacco smoking, were at a comparatively higher risk.

As said by study author Dr. Anil A. Thomas, a fellow in urology at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles, "Cannabis use only was associated with a 45% reduction in bladder cancer incidence, and tobacco use only was associated with a 52% increase in bladder cancer".
