Rancho Mirage Considers Medical Marijuana Compromise

The Rancho Mirage city council will consider Thursday a program that will give its residents access to medical marijuana while restricting dispensaries from opening up within city limits.

According to the meeting agenda, the "Medical Marijuana Compassionate Access Program" would ban dispensaries within city limits, but allow outside dispensaries to deliver to patients within the city of Rancho Mirage. Those dispensaries would still have to apply for a Rancho Mirage business license.

The city will also offer travel reimbursement for patients who use dispensaries that don't offer delivery. The only Valley city that allows dispensaries to operate legally within city limits is Palm Springs.

Mayor Pro Tem Dana Hobart said in the agenda that the new program "will serve the portion of the community that has a serious need for medical cannabis."

Absolutely disgusting as this would open it up for robbery and crime. Not to mention sting operations for distribution and sales. May look good on paper but a working model would be nothing but red tape and trouble.
