A liquid form of medical marijuana appears to be safe and effective for some children with severe epilepsy.

The study from NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center included 213 people who had no luck with other treatments to control their seizures.

After 3 months on the liquid marijuana extract, the number of seizures decreased by about half.

The extract did not include the psycho-active part of the plant that creates a "high."

However, about 6-percent of participants had to stop taking the medicine because of side effects like fatigue.
