T.C. Planning Commission To Hold Public Medical Marijuana Meeting

The public will have a chance to give their opinion about where medical marijuana can be grown and distributed.

Right now, Traverse City has a moratorium on the plant, but decisions have to be made soon.

The ordinance would let someone who is allowed to use medical marijuana grow it in their home and certified residents in the home can use it. However, they wouldn't be allowed to transfer it outside of the household.

The proposed ordinance would also determine exactly where the plant can be grown and transferred.

Not all board members are happy with the proposed regulations, saying the ordinance could increase crime.

On the other hand, some board members say the ordinance is a good way to limit the liability of the city.

The public hearing is scheduled for July 7 at 7 p.m. in the Governmental Center.

Jennifer Profitt and Photojournalist Justin DePrekel have more details on what could happen if the ordinance is passed.
