Collin County Sheriff's Office officials said an anonymous tip led to a large marijuana garden on Saturday. The marijuana was located on a piece of land owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Lt. John Norton said deputies from the Special Operations Unit confiscated 250 pounds of marijuana leaves from a wooded area near C.R. 318 and C.R. 325 between Lucas and Lowry Crossing and just west of Lake Lavon.

Deputies, responding to a tip received at 3 p.m., found numerous marijuana plants growing and hanging from the trees, Norton said. They also found a water pump recessed in the ground at the creek used to irrigate the marijuana plants, and a large amount of marijuana hanging from a rope line in the nearby trees and drying in the sun, Norton said. Deputies confiscated the plants and the pump but found no one near the area. The plants were piled into 12 bundles, each containing 50 plants. The total weight was 250 pounds. The marijuana reportedly carries a street value of $125,000. Norton said the marijuana is being destroyed.

The wooded area where the plants were grown and dried is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A USACE representative in the Fort Worth division could not be reached for comment.

Norton said a marijuana seizure of that size is uncommon for Collin County.

Collin County Sheriff's investigators have not identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the marijuana cultivation. Norton said an investigation is ongoing.
