"We believe that we are doing everything within the boundaries, actually we are exceeding all city requirements within that area."

The Spokesperson for a Vancouver medical marijuana dispensary says it's jumped through all of the regulatory hoops, but is now facing opposition from a stubborn neighbor.

Eden Medicinal operates five dispensaries across the city, serving 19,000 clients but only two have met zoning requirements to apply for development permits.

Spokesperson Danny Kresnyak says one of the pot shops is located at Kingsway and Renfrew.

The problem now? The church next door, St. Mary's Perish is circulating a petition with 1800 signatures.

"They have an issue, authored a petition, and in it they reference such obsolete things as gateway drugs and other things that have been completed negated by actual science and the actual reality of what is happening in the cannabis world."

Of 176 applications, only 14 are moving ahead in the regulatory process.
