Grafting notes for future experimentation

To graft a plant it's best to do when the plants are dormant such as in winter which won't necessarily work out well for annuals so this is truly going to be interesting. Will attempt to mimic by putting into cooler temps until graft has some time to take before restoring normal grow conditions.

I'll attempt by taking a 3" to 4" cutting from an early flowering plant and immediately putting into water.
Then I'll make a 1" to 2" diagonal cut through a stem at least 6" above the soil on a pre-flowering plant that I want to graft onto (aka rootstock plant).
Then I'll make a 1/2" deep cut 1/3 of the way down the sloping cut straight down the stem of the same rootstock plant.
Then I'll make a diagonal cut on the bottom of the cutting to correspond with the cut in the rootstock at same angle and length.
Then 1/3 of the way down the slope of the cutting I'll make a 1/2" deep cut to match the rootstock.
Finally, I'll gently slide the cutting into the stem lining up the cuts and wrap the join with twine and grafting wax.

Once the graft is completed, I'll try to keep dormant for at least 2 weeks before bringing on the veg again. We'll see how it goes.
