My dad has been growing since late December, he has had a few harvests now, all of unknown strains, and all random bag seed. We had one plant growing that looked really good, had lots of white hairs and even now the buds look really good. The problem is, when you give the bud a little squeeze, it has NO density to it. It just feels like the bud is packed with air, or kind of spongy if you will. Is this just a quality of the genetics, or what might be the problem with this plant??

It's mostly genetics. There are a few things you can do to increase density, such as lowering your lights, adding CO2, etc but airy buds will be airy buds. :/

It could be genetics but it could also be a lack of Light, In general more light intensity will give denser buds!
If there airy what week of flower are they in & what light are you using? Also giving carbohydrates like molasses will make the buds rock hard. Just let the molasses simmer a bit before feeding to your plants. If your using CFL lights then the buds will be a bit fluffy if your using HPS then it must be the to early for them to get more solid.
Without knowing how you are growing it's hard to say.

I would give Carbo will give plants denser buds. Are you using coco or flood table with clay rocks, rockwool?
If it's 1 out of 40 then I wouldn't even worry about it honestly. What is the ratio each grow? Is it always 1/40 are a large difference?
