Alameda Planning Board To Consider Permanent Pot Club Prohibition

Recall last year when a pot club (the Purple Elephant)surreptitiously opened on the West End of Alameda and then had its business license yanked? Well, after the City Council placed an emergency moratorium on the City to stop any other medical marijuana dispensaries from opening, staff promised at that time to bring back a permanent ordinance prohibiting any pot club from opening in the City.

Fast forward one year later and on Monday night, the Planning Board will be considering making a recommendation to the City Council (because they are the final "deciders" on this issue)to adopt this ordinance.

Apparently, even though this item was noticed in other newspaper publications, the City only received one public comment on the issue. I don't expect this one to go away quietly though. But if the permanent prohibition is adopted, card carrying Alamedans will have to continue making the long trek to downtown Oakland to get their medication.
Or grow it themselves.
