Algae growth and watering

so, whats the story on it.

coco with sand on top, green algae forms, I water over it. Any concerns over this? would that alone mess up PH?

Going to cover them now, but having issues and wondering what the effects are of doing the watering ontop of the algae.

Thanks

Hey Mayne -- Algae are everywhere. They shouldn't mess up your pH at all. They're just along for a free ride. Since it's coco you don't have to worry about too much water. If it bothers you, you could just block the light, but ideally in such a way that you still have good air circulation over the top of the pot. Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can start to smell kinda funky (earthy) if they get too well established, and are slimey and gross, but again, shouldn't really cause problems.

OK, Cool. thats fellas.

I ended up just putting coco ontop, doesnt seem to grow on it like the sand, and my runoff was at 5.7, *shruggs, sounds good to me,lol..

I was just curious what thoughts on it was, so THANKS for the input
