CA: County May Expand Zones That Allow Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

The fate of Calaveras County's longest-operating medical marijuana dispensary remains in limbo after a judge Friday delayed his decision on whether to close the business, and Calaveras County supervisors are poised Tuesday to consider zoning rule changes that could resolve the dispensary's legal conflict.

Forgotten Knowledge Collective has operated since 2010 in Nove Plaza in Valley Springs. Calaveras County representatives say it does not have the proper professional office zoning. On Friday, they asked Calaveras County Superior Court Judge Grant Barrett to close Forgotten Knowledge until the zoning dispute can come to trial.

Barrett put off making that decision. Meanwhile, urgency ordinances supervisors will consider Tuesday could make that trial moot. If at least four of the five supervisors approve those ordinances, then county code will be changed to expand the zones allowing dispensary operations to three additional zones — C1 or limited commercial, C2 or general commercial and M4 or business park.
