14, 2009 at 11 a. m.

* What: Spokane clinic raid protest
* When: Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11 a. m.

2. Spokane prosecutor ad
========================================

In response to the multiple raids perpetrated by Spokane County officials, the Cannabis Defense Coalition intends to place a display ad in the Spokesman Review calling out Spokane County's elected Prosecutor, Steve Tucker, for his support of this witch hunt and campaign of fear.

See the ad here:

We'll have a final price when the Spokesman Review ad department is open tomorrow. Our current estimate is $600 for placement in next Sunday's paper. Currently we have one pledge for $100. So we need $500 to run it.

3. Court: Mason County v. Mower/Reed Monday
========================================

Mason County continues its vigorous prosecution of authorized medical marijuana patients Karen Mower and John Reed. Currently we have one carpool scheduled to leave tomorrow morning at 8:30 a. m. from the new Cannabis Resource Center, 8456 Dallas Ave. S. in Seattle's South Park neighborhood. If you need a ride, or if you can drive, please respond to this email, and plan on being at the CRC at 8:30 a. m.

* Mon Sep 14 - 11am
* Mason v. John Reed/Karen Mower
* 419 N 4th St., Shelton, WA 98584
* Carpool leaves at 8:30am

========================================
4. Cannabis Resource Center: CDC's new HQ in South Park
========================================

In seeking office space, we ultimately found more than we sought. Thus, we have begun a new project:

Cannabis Resource Center
8456 Dallas Ave. S. Seattle, WA 98108

Google Maps q=8456+Dallas+Ave+S+98108

----------

Resources at the CRC will soon include:

* Cannabis Defense Coalition offices, staffed
(hopefully) Monday through Friday
10-6ish. Mission control for court case tracking, carpool creation, information collection and dissemination.

* Court day carpool parking, gathering point, etc.

* A place for simple volunteerism. We *always* need more little red buttons made. We especially need volunteer phone jockeys to staff the Washington State Potline.

* Community meeting/classroom/event space available for rent on a sliding scale.

* Free medical marijuana guides, stickers, posters, etc.

* CDC t-shirts, marijuana magazines, posters, etc.

* A public piano, wheeled out front every morning.

* A pinball machine, maybe. Know a good cheap one?

----------

At this point, we have our office space painted, set up, and ready to go. This Monday we are starting work on the event/meeting/classroom space in the back. If you have construction experience, and want to volunteer for that, show up some time after 11 a. m. at 8456 Dallas Ave S. You can also call the new CDC travel/voip-is-broken cell phone at 206-334-7966 to get the skinny on what's happening any given day.

The big question we must ask is this: how do we raise the $1500 monthly rent plus approximately $500 in monthly bills? Our ideas thus far include 1) event space rental, 2) retail sales, 3) fundraising events, and 4) CRC-specific fundraising. Currently we are asking for six-month rent pledges. If you can give $20, $40, $100 or more per month to help cover CRC rent, please contact us, visit the Center, or head over to cdc. coop to donate online via Paypal.

Currently we have two monthly pledges -- one for $500, the other $100 -- $600 so far, $1400 to go.

5. Jack Herer hospitalized
========================================

An update from Chris Conrad:

"Noted hemp activist Jack Herer gave an impassioned speech at the Portland (OR) HempStalk festival Sept 12, left the stage and collapsed with an apparently serious heart attack. He was taken from the site by ambulance and hospitalized and was undergoing a procedure and his condition was most recently reported to be stable. His wife, Jeannie, was not with him at the time and has been in touch with the hospital by telephone. The rest of the festival went on as scheduled.

"Ironically, I was on stage talking about my work with Jack and his special affection for Oregon and its activists while, unbeknownst to me, medical personnel were working backstage to save his life. For tonight, that is all we know up here. Expect to be updated tomorrow sometimes."

Please direct your prayers and positive energy toward Jack.

6. September meeting minutes, member committees
========================================

September meeting minutes are posted at:

* Meeting 2009-09-07 - Cannabis Defense Coalition

We discussed our new office space, our Adopt-A-Highway sign, and member committees.

Our first Adopt-A-Highway cleanup is Sunday, September
27. We meet at high noon at Pam's house.

* What: CDC Adopt-A-Highway cleanup
* When: Sunday, September 27 at noon
* Where: 22021 SE 203rd Ave, Maple Valley, WA 98038
* Map: Google Maps q=22021+SE+203rd+Ave+98038
* Cell: 206-334-7966

We have created four member committees, which report to the board. Our hope is that this will allow members the opportunity to get more involved in specific projects, without the responsibilities of board membership. Our four initial member committees are:

* Membership committee
* Outreach committee
* Technology committee
* Cannabis Resource Center committee

The CRC committee will meet every Monday night at 7 p. m. starting tomorrow (Mon Sep 14). If you are a member interested in serving on this committee, please show up at 8456 Dallas Ave S. tomorrow night or the following Monday.

7. Current projects, membership, and money in the bank
========================================

Cannabis Defense Coalition membership is $40 per calendar year. Currently we have 52 paid members, and four lapsed members.

Our bank account stands at $3,578.57. Recent general fund expenditures include:

* 8/6 - $553.00 - Courtroom Observation Companion printing
* 8/25 - $126.50 - Little Nickel ad, free medical marijuana guide
* 9/1 - $114.00 - Little Nickel ad, free medical marijuana guide
* 9/8 - $114.00 - Little Nickel ad, free medical marijuana guide
* 9/11 - $250.00 - Deposit on 20-yard dumpster rental for CRC

Current CDC projects include:

----------

* Courtroom observation. Our core activism is bearing witness to medical marijuana prosecutions throughout Washington State. We have committed to reimbursing gas for those who need it, even if those monies must come from the general fund. In some cases, our board has committed to providing overnight lodging if need be.

Costs: around $100 per month at this point, all of it coming from member donations. Needs: more volunteer observers, drivers, case tracking office volunteers at the CRC.

----------

* Washington State Potline, 888-208-5332. Toll-free medical marijuana information line with recorded legal info, attorney listings, etc. Callers can connect to an operator (hopefully) to ask questions, report arrests, etc.

Costs: about $20-40 per month in voice-over-ip phone charges. Needs: phone volunteers, VOIP phones and Asterisk geeks.

----------

* Courtroom Observation Companion and Little Nickel ad. We printed 2500 copies of our medical marijuana guidebook. We distribute them free of charge. We are running an ad in every Little Nickel newspaper in the state offering our guide free of charge to anyone who writes.

Costs: Printing was $2053, $500 of which is a loan that will be covered by the general fund if project-specific donations are not found. The Little Nickel ad is $114 per week for all zones plus front page placement in the zone that covers Thurston, Mason, Lewis and Grays Harbor counties. The ad is currently being paid for out of the general fund, which can not continue indefinitely.

----------

* Medical Marijuana Reclamation Project. Various police officers and/or agencies throughout the State of Washington seem to think it's okay to confiscate medical marijuana from authorized patients. This is, of course, not how our law works, and we believe there should be
*some* response to these cases, even if the attempt is ultimately futile. To that end, we are paying a $200 per-case stipend to a lawyer who will challenge as many marijuana confiscations as we can, and use those challenges as a way to educate law enforcement officials and gain their compliance with, if not support of, our voter-enacted medical marijuana law.

Costs: Nothing so far. We have two cases pending at $200 each. Needs: monetary pledges, case reports of medical marijuana confiscations.

----------

* Cannabis Resource Center. The project most able to make one think, "holy crap what have we begun?" or "holy crap how are we going to pay for this?" The Cannabis Defense Coalition's new headquarters in South Park, 8456 Dallas Ave. South. Activism center, community space, event space, patient resource center, future site of a good-food cafe.

Costs: $1500 per month rent, around $500 in bills, $2000 total monthly expenses. One time remodel costs of $5000-8000, doable in stages. Needs: monetary donations, six-month rent pledges, skilled construction labor, sheetrockers, materials like sheet rock, paint and plywood.

8. Marc Emery sentencing in Seattle
========================================

Marc Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine, the self-styled "prince of pot," will be sentenced to five years in prison in the Federal Courthouse in downtown Seattle on Monday, September 28. That's what the Cannabis Culture site says, at least. We don't actually have confirmation on that date right now, but again, that's what the CC site says.

This is a hearing not to be missed. Come one, come all. Tell your friends. Leave the medical marijuana *outside* of the federal courthouse. They find little humor in such matters on that little parcel of fed-kooky land.

We'll be working to inform the public about this case in the next few weeks. More info to come.
