County Supervisors Pass On Grass

The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to oppose the upcoming proposition that would legalize marijuana for recreational use in the state.

At their Sept. 7 meeting, supervisors said Proposition 19, formally titled the Regulation, Control, and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010, was badly written and in violation of federal law.

By their own admission, the supervisors' vote does much more than help the California State Association of Counties decide what its position will be on the proposition; it may be an indication of how the county will handle the marijuana law if it passes in November. Counties will have a lot of say in determining how the new law is enforced.

I understand the gesture. And if the citizens of that county agree, those citizens will be able to reelect those people (or the people that appointed them, if theirs are not elected positions).

But they would be able to prohibit transactions (buying/selling). But they would NOT be able to prohibit the "up to 25 square foot" gardens or one-ounce possession for personal recreational use.

So in effect, they could halt commercial cannabis in their county. That is a completely different animal than being able to halt recreational cannabis.

They also would not legally be allowed to prohibit an adult (21 or over) from driving to the next county (if that county allows transactions), picking up an ounce, and driving home.

I checked the source for a comment area to see how the locals are reacting, but did not see one.

we still have dry counties in north carolina, but no one cares about those places because the only thing that may make those places suck less is an inebriating substance. no one goes to these places because their events suck. In raleigh events have local beer and free wine, maybe soon in Oakland events will have free nickel bags and rolling papers. Would you go to the dry county?
