Help with watering my seedling?

My soil is starting to dry and ive heard that its best to stick your finger in the soil about an inch and if its dry then it needs watering i wanna know how true this is and if this changes being as it is a seedling? also if this is true do i keep this routine the same throughout the who plants life? and one more thing how much exactly do i water this plant throughout its life Seedling?, Veg? Flower? im new and any help would be best!

Yeah mate that's the method with the finder and water till you get about 10 percent run off

I do it differently and judge by weight. To save me some typing - here's a link to an article describing that method. What is the "lift the pot" method?
With the size of pot you have there I wouldn't expect to have to water the plant for two weeks, maybe three. Possibly some surface touch ups, dribbling around the sides or spraying. I wouldn't soak it down - that's deadly for little ones.
