Hi I'm a newbie here and in a Panic! Two plants dead need help to save the rest

I grow in tubs. Monday evening one of my plants all the leaves went totally droopy. It was really windy so I thought it somehow snapped from the roots even though it has a tomato cage. Now on Wednesday a second plant went limp and the first plant is totally dead. I thought I should separate them from the rest of the grow. When I move the two plants there was a massive amount of little white worm nats like you would find on rotting food or meat under the tubs on the cement. I moved the other good plants to a new area and some of them had the bug worms.



What are they? How do I stop them? 2 dead 10 alive.

The two things that come to mind with your description are fungus gnat larva or root maggots. Since they are killing the plants I'm betting they are root maggots. Both are drawn to high levels of organic material like manure in the soil, but fungus gnats eat fungi first and usually don't damage the plants unless they run out of other food sources. If the outbreak is that severe it's going to be tough to deal with. Mosquito dunks broken up in water and then used as a soil drench introduce a microorganism that will kill mosquito and fungus gnat larva...I'll bet they would work on root maggots as well, but I'm not sure. You could also look into something like maybe azatrol or azamax, but I'm not sure how well these will work on root maggots either, so you're going to have to do a little research...or I'm sure your local garden center could recommend something.
