Hollister Pot Shop Plans to Recall Mayor

Calif. - Evictions, lawsuits and now a petition to recall the mayor. The weed war in Hollister takes an ugly turn.

The owner of the marijuana dispensary Purple Cross RX says he started a petition to recall the mayor of Hollister following a lawsuit from the city.

"We are in enough debt as it is," says McPhail. "It's just going to tie up in court for years."

It's a fight that McPhail is planning to drag out in court. He feels Purple Cross RX has every right to stay in Hollister.

"We are within our rights and the laws of California," says McPhail.

But city council disagrees. This week, members unanimously voted to sue the medical marijuana dispensary, claiming pot shops are illegal in Hollister.

McPhail exclusively told Central Coast News he's now starting a petition to recall Mayor Victor Gomez and Council member Doug Emerson.

"We need people in that council to know how to handle matters in a professional way as far as law-abiding citizens and not try to run them out of town," says McPhail. "Just because they don't like the fact of what we are here for and what we stand for."

"I'm not concerned." says Gomez. "I feel like I'm making good decisions for the City of Hollister. I take my position seriously."

Just three months into his term, Gomez said he doesn't think the recall has any merit.

"I don't want to say if it's ridiculous or not," says Gomez. "Everyone's entitled to do what they want."

"We are not going to be stepped on," says McPhail. "We are here for the long haul."

There was some talk before that McPhail is planning to move the dispensary. He says, they're still looking at other places in the county, but for now, they're staying put.

This one will be interesting if it plays out. This is how you attack city hall. it only took one million dollar's to recall California governor Pete Wilson. just think how cheap it is for a Mayor...If you have a divided community, this would be one of the options to remove a politician who believe that's it ok to pick on the sick... marijuana patients, dispensary's and their members need to ban together and attack through recalls, voting in new politicians that understand the issues using common sense. . .

Thanks for the correction. Wrong Governor, my mistake. You are worrying about the cost. The politicians in office right now don't give a damn about what they are spending on their court battles due to war on drugs. How much are we spending now on law enforcement, court cost. cost of marijuana eradication, The cost of holding all of the prisoners and your freedom. I think recalls do work. it hits them were they live... I feel, when it comes to time that the cost of freedom is to much to pay ... Is the day we loose our freedom as human's...

i wonder how many bars, liquor stores, and pharmacies are in hollister. not to mention how many places you can purchase cigarettes. if the anwser to these are zero, then the mayor is at least being consistent.

I am not saying recalls are wrong. I was just saying that in the case of the recalled California Governor, it was not worth it. Look what we got. "Look-out, Get Down". :thumb:

I have to agree on you on the governor recall. We haven't been to lucky in getting a governor that really understands the issues and has solutions. We just get the point the finger game and blame the opposition for all the state troubles in California. :peacetwo:
