well , for seed to be produced you have to introduce pollen to the female flowers. Just putting a male next to a female will produce seeds but not as effectivly as when you collect the pollen from the male and brush it over the female flowers.Also you dont have to pollenate a whole plant just for seed unless you want quantity, you can just seed a few lower buds and save some herb for you to smoke.
