I could concievably be the strain, the grower didnt leach the chemicals properly, or its sprayed with something to give it that distinctive pungent aroma.
If the last is the case you'll be able to tell if the herb smells the same when its in the bag as it does when you rip a nug in half.
And Iwouldn't recommend smoking it if its sprayed but its hard to tell just by your description.
