During the first week of March, the Marist Poll conducted the Weed & the American Family survey, funded by Yahoo News and focusing on the impact of marijuana use on relationships and the family. Barbara Brohl, executive director of Colorado's Department of Revenue, told the panel her state's recreational marijuana program brought in almost $200 million in new taxes a year ago. This sentiment has increased each year we've measured it since 2013, with the turning point to majority support coming in 2014. And women are now as much in favor of legal marijuana as men are; in previous years they were less so.

State Sen. Dale A. Righter (R-Mattoon), noting that "there's a price" in social ills that would accompany an increase in tax revenue, asked about a news report that attributed marijuana legalization with an increase in homelessness in Denver.

It's illegal in Colorado to consume marijuana indoors in places considered public.

A majority of voters in CT supported legalizing small amounts of marijuana for personal use the last time Quinnipiac asked the question in the state, but legalization bills have consistently stalled in the legislature and Gov. Colorado's revenue director said there is still a black market for marijuana sales in that state, but at least 75 percent of marijuana sale are now part of the legal market and thus subject to sales tax. Only 7 percent think marijuana is the more risky of the two. As such, 53 percent of people in the CBS poll think alcohol is more harmful than marijuana.

The majority of those polled strongly disagreed with the federal classification of marijuana as a Schedule I drug alongside narcotics and feel the policy does not make sense given the legality of alcohol and tobacco.
