Less watts needed for veg than flower?

Hey everybody,

I've got a rookie question for you guys, but I've got to share some details before I ask...

I'm planning a 4000 watt room. I've decided to aim for 1 big harvest (started from seed), and to forgo the hassle of setting up a perpetual harvest.

I'm looking to grow only 8 or 9 plants total, but to (obviously) grow them huge. Probably using ScrOG.

So my question is...

Are all 4000 watts needed for the vegetative cycle? Could I somehow veg out these huge plants, using say 2000 watts, then add the remaining 2000 for flower?

Thanks for reading.

4000W of what? CFL, LED, MH, Induction? If you are talkin hps/mh I hope you got the air conditioning units in order depending on the size and makeup of the room. Ventilation and ac will be a huge part of that grow.
Why would you use 4000w of anything on just 8-9 plants. Even growing absolute monsters 2000w hps would be plenty to cover them.

2x 1000w hps will cover 5 foot x 10 foot.
3x will cover 5 foot by 15 foot.
4x 5 foot x 20 feet? Lot of area there.
