In the current Cannabis Culture they show 3 methods of makng hash, and one of the methods, discovered by Neville, is called separation by density, where your basically taking advantage of the fact that the plant material floats in water and the trichomes dont.
After some practice and patience you should have this method down.
First you will need a coarse sieve, (a window screen or strainer). At least two straight sided glass containers, (im guessing straight sided because it affects the way everything settles). A spoon, some coffee filters and some very dry bud (frozen even). Recently I discovered that vaped bud works well too!
Grind the very dry bud through a sieve into one of the glass containers.
Now place the ground bud into the second glass container, do not fill more then halfway. Fill the rest of the jar with very cold water, shake or stir vigorously for at least 30 seconds.
Then set the glass jar down for 10 minutes.
After that you should notice the bottom of the container has a thin layer of sand like trichomes.
Pour out all but 1 inch of water, being careful not to disturb the thin layer of trichomes at the bottom, and refill with fresh cold water. Let rest for 10 minutes.
Swirl the trichomes and water around, making sure to pick up all of the trichomes and quickly pour into a coffee filter. After letting the water drain out you should spread the wet trichomes out overnight to dry out. The next day you can either smoke as is or press.
