Marijuana Clinics: The Doctor Is In April 1

The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation opened a pioneering enterprise in Southfield, Michigan last December – a medical clinic that specializes in assisting patients in becoming eligible for the treatment of their health problems with medical marijuana. This came in the wake of Michigan’s legalization of the use of medical marijuana as a pain management therapy for people suffering from state-specified illnesses such as cancer, glaucoma, Alzheimer’s and AIDS.

Starting April 4, Michigan state regulators will begin accepting applications for state authorization to acquire, grow, transport or possess marijuana for medical purposes from patients who wish to undergo marijuana-based therapeutic treatments. The clinic’s doctors will assist these patients in securing that permit.

The clinic’s Chief Executive Paul Sanford reveals further that the clinic will be conducting pre-screening to make certain that patients have already been diagnosed with a condition that has been approved by the state for treatment using medical marijuana. The clinic itself does not dispense or sell marijuana.

This pioneering enterprise may well create a niche for itself in Michigan as well as in other states that have already legalized medical marijuana or are already going down that route. Furthermore, a facility like this will serve as yet another way to control the distribution of medical marijuana while at the same time giving patients access to doctors who are amenable to the use of medical marijuana. Despite the legalization of marijuana, there are still a lot of doctors who would rather not recommend its use.

Among the clinic’s services is conducting lectures where patients are educated further about medical marijuana, how it can be taken (by smoking or ingestion), its benefits and its potential dangers.

Since its opening, the THCF clinic has catered to almost 400 patients. This is but a fraction of the estimated 50,000 patients in the state who may benefit from the use of medical marijuana.
