Can anyone tell me if I can purchase a metal halide light kit and wen it's time for flowering just replace the MH bulb with a HPS bulb in the same light kit??

yes, but only if the ballast supports switching bulb types.
I just purchased a 400W HPS light that also came with a 400w MH conversion bulb. Works fantastic. HTGsupply. under 200 bucks included hood and timer.
