More than 50 pounds of marijuana has been seized during traffic stops along Interstate 80 over the past week.

The Nebraska State Patrol said Monday that most of those drugs were discovered during one stop near York on Sunday.

The patrol says a trooper stopped a rented 2010 Ford Explorer near York for failing to signal, and then noticed the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Five duffel bags filled with 39.4 pounds of marijuana were found inside, and the driver from Valparaiso, Ind., was arrested.

Last Thursday, a trooper stopped a 2009 Cadillac near Lincoln for following too close and also smelled marijuana. Three buckets were found in the trunk with 11.5 pounds of marijuana inside. The driver and passenger from Laytonville, Calif., were both arrested.
