A Wayland, Steuben County, couple has been arrested by State Police for growing marijuana on their back porch.

State Police from the Wayland barracks and Steuben County Probation had received an anonymous report of a subject, who is on probation, growing marijuana and possibly possessing a firearm at an Acomb Road residence in the town of Dansville, Steuben County.

Katherine Kurtz, 58, and Richard Kurtz, 67, both of Acomb Road, Wayland, were charged with unlawfully growing of cannabis and unlawful possession of marijuana. They were issued appearance tickets returnable to Town of Dansville Court.

Katherine Kurtz is on probation for a previous conviction of third-degree grand larceny.

Upon arrival at the residence, troopers observed seven marijuana plants growing in plain view on the rear porch or the residence, police said.

A search of the residence found a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia containing marijuana residue, police said.
