The marijuana field is getting crowded.

A marijuana legalization ballot issue - the third so far this year - was approved today as a single issue by the Ohio Ballot Board.

The vote by the Ballot Board, chaired by Secretary of State Jon Husted, clears the way for Ohioans to End Prohibition to begin collecting signatures for the "Cannabis Control Amendment." The group will need 305,591 valid signatures of registered Ohio voters, which is 10 percent of the total vote cast for governor in last year's election. Supporters also need signatures from 44 of Ohio's 88 counties.

The issue, proposed by five individuals around the state, would permit individuals 21 and older to possess up to 100 grams of marijuana, 500 grams of marijuana-infused solids, plus quantities of liquids and extracts containing marijuana. People 18 and older with qualifying medical conditions could qualify for medical marijuana.

Two other marijuana ballot issues have been cleared, but only ResponsibleOhio's proposed amendment appears likely to make it to the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
