Question: 1st Grow, LUX Foot Candles & Lighting?

Hey everyone,

I launched a grow journal and started some seedlings and I have some questions about lighting. The light I was using to start was a desk lamp and my seedlings keep stretching for the sky to find adequate light.

I have a nice MARS Pro Epistar II 80 on order, but in the interim I dug out a very powerful work light from my garage to use. Since I don't know much about lighting, are these types of lights halogen (see pic)? Are they okay to use?

There are no specifications on the lighting or housing that help me figure this out.

I measured 7200 LUX with both lights on at a 24 inch distance from bulb to plant. I can turn one off if its too much. The light is hot so I am hitting the seedling grow area on angles.

I could really use some help as I am a total newbie on my 1st grow.

It's probably ok until you get a more normal grow light. I wouldn't let the temperature get above 80 degrees at plant level. If you were to use something like a quantum board or cob you can save 3/4 of the energy by turning them down when the plants are young.
