Quick up potting question

Hey guys,

Just a quick question on up potting. I’m about to move a plant up from a 2 gallon pot to a 5 gallon pot. Up until this point I’ve been putting about an inch layer of rock at the bottoms of my pots before I add any soil. Is this a necessary step? I just wanted to be sure it’s a proper practice.

Thank you!

I have done it for years although some people disagree
It helps with drainage of the pot
When watering ensure your drain the pot saucers of all water before putting back into your grow area
Excess water contributes to possible algae or mold growth and is a place for bugs to grow
Happy growing :yummy:

Awesome, thank you!!

I do it too. There will be an advantage when the plants get bigger and you water a lot more. The runoff you can leave in the tray the plants will up-take that water and you won't have to worry about btm of pot getting water logged which can be a problem.
