Ravenplume Pocket Journal RPCNPJ-2024:00 - One More Sexing Techniques Test

I am now opening my first of what I call Pocket Journals, which are like the previous side journal, but I like this name better. Anyhow, the focus on this first pocket journal is simply comparing sexing techniques, specifically comparing the technique of starting them from planting on flowering lighting (which I have personally settled on as 14 hours dark and 10 hours light, giving some room for derping and forgetting to wake up or put to bed) and starting a plant on 14/10 after they reach what I call Level:0 status of a crown and at least one level of leaves (not counting the initial baby leaves).

This is the follow up to the previous side journal, which I had to close out because I lost track of what had gone through 14/10 already. This time around, I am going to try to keep the subjects to 2 or 3 sibling pairs at the most, at least until I have decided I have enough data to determine which is really the most effective method.

In order to keep track of what has been through what now, the A and B designators will be the indicators for any plants from now on as to whether they have done the flowering from birth or not. So here is A, aka Alpha, which will be in darkness until noon tomorrow.

And B, aka Bravo gets to spend the day in a south facing window, and will then be moved to under one of the several lamps around the house until bedtime.

I will be doing updates daily around noon, when A has its wakey, showing how each is developed of course.

SPT+ 52 Hours

SPT means Sprout Time, and SPT+ is time since sprouted, which will change from hours to days in one week. Just an FYI.

So, here are Alpha and Bravo 52 hours after sprouting, and starting their first official light periods. I was going to make Thursday the day I take Alpha off of 14/10, but I think I will let it go an extra day and do it Friday, which is slowly becoming the big update day on ultimately most, if not all journals. I did forget to put Bravo under a lamp after the sun went down yesterday, but I think the little one should be fine with just that one little herp derp.

Alpha is sitting at about 1/2" or 15mm from the top of the dirt, while Bravo is at 1/8" / 10mm. Also, it looks like I did not give these a layer of yard dirt on top after all, unlike some other still easily washed away sprouts recently, so they can be easily uprooted in this Miracle Gro stuff, which happened with Bravo while I was taking the measurement. Fortunately, it was simple enough to get the sproutling back into the dirt. Guess I just have to be extra careful now.

And until sundown, they get to enjoy the prime spot in my room, after which, this time, they will both get lamp space and then Alpha will get put to bed at 22:00 while Bravo is put to bed when I go to bed (usually around midnight).

SPT +74 Hours

Alpha: 5/8" / 16mm
Bravo: 5/8" / 16mm

PJ-CN-2024-0000-05.jpg

And amazingly, I actually remembered to put them under one of the lamps after the Sun went down last night.

SPT +98 Hours

Alpha: 1 3/8" / 35mm
Bravo: 7/8" / 21mm

Bravo has popped its shell already. Alpha likely will by tomorrow, at least that is my best guess.

Alpha still has not yet popped its shell.

SPT +122 Hours

Alpha: 1 3/4" / 37mm
Bravo: 1 1/2" / 30mm

And I mismeasured yesterday, goddammit, and no way to edit the post now either.

Both should have been 1 1/2" / 37mm

Alpha has finally thrown off its shell.

SPT +7 Days

Alpha: 1 7/8" / 47.6mm
Bravo: 1 3/4" / 44mm

Odd no notable growth on Bravo this time.

SPT +8 Days

PJ-CN-2024-0000-13.jpg

Alpha: 2 " / 50.8mm
Bravo: 1 3/4" / 44mm

Actually, I topped off Bravo's soil yesterday, so the measurement is shorter than would have been expected. Whatever it would have been, the extra dirt knocked it back to what was recorded yesterday.

SPT +9 Days

Alpha: 2 1/8" / 54mm
Bravo: 1 7/8" / 47.6mm

I think I will start trying to get the daily shot from a more straight on angle like this. At least the babies' marking sticks can be used as reference points for their growth.

SPT +11 Days

Alpha: 2 1/4" / 57.1mm
Bravo: 2 1/2" / 63.5mm

No actual growth to report today. I think the actual measurements yesterday probably should have been at least perhaps 1/8" shorter than reported.

SPT +12 Days

Alpha: 2 3/8" / 60.3mm
Bravo: 2 5/8" / 66.7mm

Really couldn't quite tell if there was any new growth, or if the potting soil settled further, exposing more of the stems, but the above measurements are what I got today.

Tonight will be the final 14/10 cycle for Alpha, then it goes on normal wake up to bedtime lighting as we watch its crown for telltale signs of flowering.

I'm thinking that with tomorrow's update, since I will be topping off their soil, I am going to start fresh on the measurements, but measuring from the lip of the J-Pots. Updates will also become weekly, though I will do a daily shot (those will get shown on my web site). The weekly update will just show the latest with a compare to the previous week's with a side by side pic.

SPT +13 Days

Alpha: 1 3/4" / 44.5mm
Bravo: 1 3/4" / 44.5mm

This is finally the day where Alpha gets to come off of Flowering lighting and chill beside Bravo in the window during the day and under blurple lamp after sun is gone.

This is also the day that I change my measurements from the top of the soil to the top of the center of the crown, as the occasional soil top off was making that a stupid idea. Now, I will be measuring from the lip of the Jiffy Pot to the top of the crown's center.

Additional updates will now be weekly, but moved to Saturday instead of Friday, and starting on next update, SPT will be in both weeks and days. I am not yet certain when Bravo is going to be put on 14/10. I think I want to wait until it is at least at what I call Level:0, meaning crown and at least 2 levels of leaves/nodes, not counting the infant leaves. For now, we wait and watch the crowns for further developments.

Goddammit. I think I am going to have to delete this entire freaking journal and rebuild it, seeing how I am so effing stupid I couldn't even get the dates anywhere close to correct on the entire damn thing.

SPT +7 Weeks (55 Days)

A: 8.00" / 20.3cm
B: 6.25" / 15.9cm

Wow! It has been a while, a couple of whiles even, since I last updated this. So, after nearly a month and a half or so since the last update, both Alpha and Bravo have long since completed their respective 14/10 flowering lighting. Can't quite recall the timing, but I do remember it was done with flowering lighting on 04/20. As you can see, they have both grown up to be quite healthy babes, and both are definitely showing preflowers.

What is really promising is that after all this time, none of those preflowers became actual flowers; and since the boys tend to show their pollen sacs early on, and these show no signs of either, I am becoming quite hopeful that they are both girls and are in the midst of reveg already.

Alpha...

I am leaning toward declaring Alpha to be the primary (S:0) for Birthday Spanking Pair:1. and will get the Birthday spot at the backside of the cage come June.

The other one can be the S:2 to be the breeding gal to make Pair:1/Generation:01 seeds when I get a Pair:1 boy.

So far, I am figuring that either means of flowering is fine...flowering lighting for 10 days upon planting, or letting it grow out a bit and then flowering. At any rate, I am going to continue doing flowering from birth from now on; just to get that extra step over and done with right up front.
