CA - The Soledad City Council is slated to discuss a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries at its meeting Wednesday.

The 5:30 p.m. meeting will be held at the council's chambers at 248 Main St., Soledad. The agenda includes a public hearing on Ordinance No. 668, "An Urgency Interim Ordinance of the City of Soledad Making Findings and Establishing a City-Wide Moratorium on the Issuance of Use Permits and Building permits for Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Pending a Zoning Ordinance Amendment."

Following a staff report, the public will be invited to share comments. A council discussion and action will ensue, with staff recommending the ordinance be adopted.

In April 2007, the Salinas City Council voted to ban the establishment of a medical marijuana dispensary within city limits. Marina banned medical-marijuana dispensaries in February 2007, as did Seaside in 2006.

Monterey is currently debating the issue after a medical marijuana shop opened quietly as an "herbal remedies" store in late 2009.
