Texas woman sentenced in DeSoto County for transporting marijuana

SARDIS, Mississippi A Texas woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for possession of more than 300 pounds of marijuana seized by police in Southaven, Mississippi, in 2002.

Thirty-eight-year-old Jacqueline Mercedes Diaz of McAllen was sentenced yesterday. Circuit Judge Andrew Baker sentenced her to 12 years in prison with four years suspended for possession of more than five kilograms of marijuana. She could have faced a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine of up to one (m) million dollars.
