Cedar Rapids, Iowa - A man whose car ran off Interstate 80 into a farm field has been sentenced to more than three years in prison after officers found 65 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of that car.
Alfredo Contreras-Diaz, of Las Vegas, was sentenced on his guilty plea last December to possession with intent to distribute the marijuana he had picked up in Mexico and was delivering to Chicago last May.

Last August, he was convicted of attacking a jailer during a visit to University Hospitals after he had complained of stomach pain. The jailer was able to take the 30-year-old Contreras-Diaz to the ground and handcuff him before Contreras-Diaz could escape. He was convicted in Johnson County for assault on a jailer and attempted escape.

U.S. District Court Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced Contreras-Diaz to 41 months in prison. Following his sentence, he faces deportation by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
