The Westlake Village City Council tonight will consider an appeal by a medicinal marijuana dispensary that opened in the back of a business park without permits and wants permission to stay.

Operators of Amazing Healing Supply contend the nonprofit collective is bringing medicinal cannabis to legitimate patients and should be viewed as a permit-eligible medical facility.

Westlake Village’s planning staff and city attorney say such dispensaries are prohibited under current zoning for the business park in the 31000 block of La Baya Drive. The operator was informed of that but opened anyway, according to officials.

The city’s staff is recommending that the council deny the appeal and then enact a temporary moratorium to strengthen the city’s position against medicinal pot dispensaries.

The council meeting is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 31200 Oak Crest Drive.
