Which light will be better for veg

I have some clones i am trying to get to 6 inches. i have a 175 watt hps or i can put them under my t5. which do you think will get them their faster. they are about 2 to 3 inches now

Given a choice between t5 and hps then go the t5, I'm assuming your t5's are 6500k?

The only problem with t5 / cfl etc. is that they will not penetrate the canopy as well as a HID so you will need to better place them, but if you are just trying to get a bit of growth on your clones then they should be fine.

The ideal situation for you though would be to buy a cmh (ceramic metal hallide) as that will run in your HPS ballast.

To answer your initial question. The HPS would get your clones to 6 inches quicker but you would have less nodes.
