The Marlborough City Council is weighing new zoning restrictions for marijuana shops at a public hearing scheduled for Monday, Feb. 26. Among other changes, a proposed amendment would limit medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries to two stretches of Route 20 outside the city center, according to notices posted on the city’s website.

The ordinance would allow for such shops between Phelps Street and the Sudbury town line as well as from Interstate 495 to the Northborough border.

But the proposed measure would also restrict marijuana manufacturing, testing, transportation, and cultivation facilities to the latter strip, with a cap on one of each type of facility in the city. Marlborough voted to legalize recreational marijuana, with 52 percent of the vote in 2016. The hearing is scheduled for 8 p.m. in City Hall.
