Lakeville voters will decide at the June 4 Town Meeting whether the town should allow retail sales, cultivation, testing facilities, and other activities associated with recreational marijuana.

One proposal would amend the town’s zoning bylaws to allow activities related to recreational marijuana in an industrial district. Other articles on the warrant allow the Planning Board to grant special permits related to marijuana activities, and for the town to levy a 3 percent tax on marijuana sales.

Zoning articles require a two-thirds vote.

A majority of Lakeville voters were opposed to recreational marijuana legalization in 2016, voting 50.6 percent against, 49.4 percent in favor.

Town Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on June 4 in the auditorium in Apponequet Regional High School, 100 Howland Road, Lakeville.

Registered voters in Lakeville are eligible to vote at Town Meeting, and a quorum of 100 people is necessary for votes to take place, said Town Administrator Rita Garbitt.
